Happy Thanks, Birth Control week!

This week, we celebrated Thanks, Birth Control Day. Which means that we heard from thousands of you about why you love and are grateful for birth control. So we’re going to take a break from our regularly scheduled program of gushing about birth control to share other people’s gushing about birth control. Because frankly, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

We laughed, we cried, we didn't get pregnant

As we gear up to celebrate the biggest holiday of the season (Thanks, Birth Control Day, duh) on November 13th (next week!), we’re looking back at the amazing birth control stories we’ve had the privilege to hear and share over the past few months. From clear emotional boundaries to carefree sex to career highs to much-needed relief from endometriosis, everyone gets something a little bit different from their birth control. But one thing is clear—for many of us, birth control is the GOAT.

Because birth control isn't one-size-fits-all

I spoke to four plus-size women—Chaya, Sarah, Liz, and Monica—and asked them to be as honest as possible about their experiences with birth control, including what has worked for them and what hasn’t. They talked about the stuff that surrounds the birth control convo that we almost never hear about. Here’s what they had to say:

There are so many reasons I love condoms

There are lots of reasons my preferred birth control method has long been condoms. They’re easy to find, free at the cafe I like off Market Street, super effective and come in neon colors! I also found out from my current boo that there’s this new variety that he calls “the dick-numbing kind;” it has a little bit of numbing gel in the tip for when I want to have sex for a longer-than-usual amount of time.

Showing love to the glove

When you hear the words “birth control,” you might immediately think of the pill, intrauterine device (IUD), or implant. But many people still prefer condoms as their go-to method of birth control. We decided to ask some of them why they choose to say #thxbirthcontrol to condoms.
