Is bacterial vaginosis an STI?

No. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an imbalance of the bacteria in the vagina, and it isn’t a sexually transmitted infection (STI). However, it usually only happens to people who have sex. Having BV can also increase your risk of getting an STI, like HIV, herpes, gonorrhea, or chlamydia.
